ABOUT SIYAN GREYHOUNDS

Our aim at Siyan (pronounced see – yarn) is to gather together a world class group of elite brood bitches  who  will be bred to the best possible sires, in an endeavour to produce fast, sound, good minded dogs with  NATURAL, hard chase and courage. – city class dogs with early place who can run at least 500 metres strongly.

We maintain a small team of race dogs (07 saw a winning strike rate of just under thirty per cent, 2008 winning strike rate was 45 percent!). 2009 saw us concentrate on the breeding side but 2010 will see a new group of Siyan bred and owned pups hit the track.

Our oldest pups are only just over three years of age and many have gone on to happy new owners who are enjoying great success with them! On average there are four or five Siyan bred dogs winning each week, We have produced multiple city winners and out first Group winner – Grande Siyan.

Pups that have been or are out there racing well, bred by Siyan or out of our girls include –
ADESTE FIDELIUS,  ADJUST,  BAM SIYAN,  BURGAY,  CHEEKY RED, COOL DRAUGHT, ELEVATE,  ELITE SIYAN, ELUSIVE FANTASY,  EXPRESS PAR SAL,  EXTRAVAGANT MISS,  FACIAL,  GAELIC STYLE,  GOZOFF,  GRANDE SIYAN,  HORNBLOWER,  HOW BAZAAR,  ICEMAN COOL,  INTELLECTUAL,  INTOXICATE,  KANGA FORCE,  KNOX ZEPHYR,  LUCY BALL,  MARMION, MISS GRIZWALD,  MISS ICY COOL,  MYSTIC APPLE,  NATIONAL PENNY,  PASSITO,  PHILBY,  RED TIGER,  REGISTRATE,  ROCKING OUT,  SHE CAN SAL,  STIMULATE, STORM SIYAN, SUFFOCATE,  SUMMARISE,  THUNDER SIYAN,  TRADE, WINKY SIYAN ……………………

No expense is ever spared in guaranteeing the resulting pups have the best nutrition, environment and handling to ensure they can reach their full potential. The mothers to be have the best of care and feeding to have optimum opportunities to produce healthy good sized litters (recent litters have had 10, 11, 10, 12, 14, 13, 11, 10 pups) and the pups are under our watchful eye from the minute they are born. When old enough they have access to large, safe square galloping paddocks in which they can learn to gallop, handle the rough and tumble of running with other dogs, and grow and strengthen muscle, tendon and bones.

We have a strict criteria when choosing bitches to breed from  and each bitch must fill most, if not all,of them. We want out bitches to come from a  consistently successful damline, be from a  successful litter or proven cross,  be of good type and size,  have excellent  out going temperaments,  have serious consistent chase instincts, and they need  to have proven to us, even if only in trials, that they have definite ability and chase. We do not believe that a bitch MUST be a city winner or better to breed from. Time and time again, you see group winning bitches that fail to produce (of course many are fantastic producers) but a city winning dam does not guarantee a winning litter. There are so many variables that may stop a bitch from reaching her full potential on the track – ordinary rearing, bad breaking in, injuries, a trainer that does not give her the right opportunities, sheer bad luck………. The same applies to broods – we understand that an exceptional bitch will produce good pups to most dogs, but just because a bitch does not produce a successful litter to one or two dogs, it doesn’t mean she won’t produce. Its all about finding the right click for her…..

We are fortunate to be in a position where we do not have to use a bitch that does not meet most of the above criteria. Any of our girls that are not up to scratch in these departments, are adopted out.

We have searched the world over to  gather the most successful and influential lines available. We recently imported , from England and Ireland, the first Mega Delight and Farloe Oyster daughters to ever come  to Australia. These girls have added a whole new dimension to the Siyan breeding program.

We believe that the Australian bred greyhound is one of the best in the world. Australia is renowned for the overall quality and success of its home  grown dogs but we believe the Irish/English dogs have their own areas of brilliance and the American dogs assuredly provide strength and  toughness. We also believe in judicial line breeding to outstanding individuals but the first thing we look at, when planning a litter, is to form an unbiased opinion of the attributes and weaker points of the bitch and we then set out to match her with a dog who can further strengthen her good points and help counteract her weaker areas.

We now have daughters of ;
Ashlee Jeanine, Chloe Jones, Creative,  Dance Portrait, Elusive Rebel, Farloe Oyster (Ire),Floodfawn, Hunter Tylo, Lark Song (Ire),   Late Show Lady (Ire), Leprechaun Yap, Mega Delight (Ire), Mockingbird Hill, Rumble Ciarrai (Ire), Rumble Spirit, Sobbing Sal, Spiritual Rumble, Star Witch, Steffi Grace, Stunning Style, Thai Charm, etc.

Siyan Greyhounds began in 2006, when Donna Sadler and her mother, Lois, purchased their very first greyhound – Integrity Lass. Donna, with help from her very patient partner Wayne Kirk, now solely manages the property and dogs but her mother takes a very keen interest in what going on and loves to go to the races to cheer on her favorites. The name SIYAN  (pronounced see – yarn) is a combination of Donna’s two sons Sam (RIP) and Nicky.

Donna has had a long and successful association with horses and dogs – as one of the country’s most successful trainers, breeders and importers of show and performance horses – Arabians, Warmbloods and Quarter Horses (reiners and cutters)  - for over thirty years. She has also been heavily involved with obedience, showing and breeding Rottweilers, Dobermans, and Weimaraners. For a number of years she also raced and bred sled dogs – Siberian Huskies and Alaskan Malamutes and exported some of her home bred stock overseas.

VALE- STEFFI GRACE

It is with deep regret and total sadness that we announce the sudden and totally unexpected passing of our beautiful lady, Maggie.

Her immense loss to us as an irreplaceable brood carrying one of the very last Australian Kewell litters is completely overshadowed and loses all importance compared to the shock, sheer devastation and aching pain we feel in losing such a dear, dear sweet friend. RIP dear Maggie.

Steffi Grace

VALE- SPRING HAWK.

It is with equal sadness we also announce the loss of another member of the family, our sweet boy Hawk.

Retired over a year ago with a cracked hock, Hawk was enjoying a life of leisure here at Siyan but what started as a simple infection developed into a ailment that refused to improve with any treatment we  and our vet could come up with. Sadly the decision was made to lay Hawk to rest, rather than let him have to deal with any more pain. The second grey we ever owned, Hawk taught me so much as a trainer and, despite continuing soundness issues, he always did his very best for us.
We will miis him dearly – such a sweet and special boy.
RIP Hawkie.

Spring Hawk
